The summer months can really do a number on your skin — between being exposed to the sun far more than you’re used to, to spending time in chlorine filled pools and salty oceans. With the change of seasons and activities I try to give my skin –and Piper’s too extra care and attention. Here are 6 easy ways to spoil your skin and keep it safe this summer.
1. Bathe or shower right after the pool or ocean. Kind of a no-brainer but it can be easy to forget to do this with busy schedules. I try to always pack travel sized shower stuff in our bag if we are going to the pool and remember to give Piper a bath as soon as we get home.
2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Keep your skin feeling soft and supple and lock in the moisture from your shower by applying lotion like Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Sheer Hydration Lotion right after bathing and sun exposure.
3. Make sunscreen part of your morning routine. Since Piper spends time outside most days I’ve got in the habit of applying her sunscreen (we love this stick ) when I get her dressed and also apply my own Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It’s so light and absorbs quickly so I don’t even realize I’m wearing it. Another tip is to apply your sunscreen… nude! This ensures you don’t miss any spots. Be sure to let it dry before putting on your clothing or bathing suit.
4. Exfoliate. A key to keeping your skin soft is exfoliation – I try to use a salt or sugar scrub at least twice a week before I shower on my whole body.
5. Don’t forget your scalp & lips. Be sure to apply SPF to those often forgot places!
