A Colorful Shared Boys Room

Today we are bringing you a colorful, fun shared boys room that was designed by Elizabeth Rees who designed the space. Chances are you’ve seen removable wallpaper by Elizabeth’s company, Chasing Paper in some of your favorite room tours on the internet. Elizabeth designed this functional and bold space for her nephews and we are chatting with both their mama and Elizabeth about the room!

How many kids do you have and how old are they?

We have three children.  Two boys, ages six and four, and a baby girl, who is almost one.

Have the boys always shared a room?

If so, how has that been? — Yes, they started sharing a room a little before their little sister was born. It has gone much better than expected.

Was there one single piece in the room that inspired the rest of the design?

The wallpaper, of course!  Elizabeth and I decided on something that added texture and interest to the room, but not something that they would grow out of quickly.   We chose Gridlock and the Peace print in blue to be the starting point for design.  The grey wallpaper made it easy to incorporate pops of color, which I love because I believe children’s spaces should be bright and fun!

Where’s your favorite place to shop online for kid decor?

We are definitely a Target family!  As a working mom, it’s so nice to have everything in one place — food, clothes, décor.  We also love Crate + Kids; the furniture and most of the accessories in the boys room came from there and we are so impressed with the quality.  The boys love their bunkbeds and it’s a great space saver so more room to play!

What is the most challenging thing about motherhood right now for you?

Keeping it all together. The kids’ schedules, shopping for the week, laundry, and a full time job. I am working on asking for help and having grace when I miss the mark.

And now we have a little Q&A with Chasing Paper’s founder, Elizabeth Rees who designed the space!

How did Chasing Paper come about?

Chasing Paper was born out of the idea that design is for everyone.  We believe that wallpaper can be fun and not-stressful to install, enjoy and remove when you move or decide to take the room in a new direction.

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking of starting their own business?

I think that having a point of view or differentiator is really important – something that sets you apart from the pack.  Keeping focused on what you are building and try to continually remind yourself why you started.

If you had to choose one of your peel and stick wallpaper’s for a gender neutral nursery, which would it be?

I am loving Carrie Shryock’s collection for nurseries — the Tree Toile is so beautiful and perfect for a gender neutral space!

Do you have a favorite nursery or kids room designed by an interior designer that features your wallpaper?

I loved what Emily Henderson created for Green Wedding Shoes nursery; she used Gingiber’s Leaping Bunnies print, and it was just so adorable!

What are some other fun ways to you’ve seen your wallpaper used in a nursery or kids room (aside from on the wall)?

We love it behind built ins, or to line a bookshelf or toy bin.  Little unexpected pops of print!
