DIY: Chalkboard Frame

Oct

I’m a fan of letting people know what they are drinking or eating when I entertain — and have been meaning to get a little chalkboard for styling shoots + my holiday celebrations so the other day I made my own in a matter of minutes! I used it for my birthday party and am thinking of keeping it in the kitchen with our weekly menu. I picked up my frame (a set of 2) for $5 at the local Goodwill).
Supplies + Directions

1 ornate picture frame with glass attached
Chalkboard paint
Foam brush
Flat screw driver

1. My frame had some not so beautiful artwork attached — the pre-made kind (like most at Goodwill) so my first step was removing the paper backing to the frame and using a screw driver to pry open the metal tabs holding the glass in place. Be careful!

2. Discard the artwork and remove the frame (spray paint it if you want a different color) and clean the glass.

3. On a flat covered surface lightly paint 1 layer of chalkboard paint using a foam brush on the glass and let dry 30 minutes. Continue the painting, drying cycle until the glass is totally opaque and covered (I did 3 coats). Let dry totally for 24 hours.

4. Re-assemble the glass into the frame and push back down the small metal tabs.
