My Favorite Quick And Healthy Pregnancy Snacks

Jul

I’ve always been what people consider a ‘snacker’ – I prefer smaller meals throughout the day and often find myself grazing in the fridge or pantry. This habit only became elevated when I was pregnant and then nursing Piper and felt like I was constantly hungry and…. of course it’s returned now that I’m pregnant again! I have a few bad snacking habits (I’m known to eat an entire bag of Trader Joe’s peanut butter filled pretzels in a matter of days) so I’ve been trying to consciously keep our house filled with healthy, easy options!

I recently tried N.B.T.F. Nothing But The Fruit™ snacks which are now sold at Starbucks around the country and have added them to my snack stash and satisfy my sugar cravings in a healthy way. I have a major sweet tooth and love to eat these little fruit snacks that remind me of fruit rollups from my childhood. When I was pregnant with Piper I once felt shaky while I was driving because I hadn’t eaten enough and ever since I had that feeling I always, always keep something sweet in my purse when I’m away from home. I’m just paranoid about getting that panicked feeling again so it’s great that I can toss N.B.T.F. Nothing But The Fruit™  in my bag. They have no added sugars and are packed with antioxidants.

Here are a few of my other favorite snacks:

Hard boiled eggs: I usually buy these pre-boiled (so lazy, I know) and just sprinkle a little salt + pepper. I find I really need to nibble on protein throughout the day to keep myself full and have energy. Eggs contain choline which promote’s baby’s brain health, some women even take vitamins with choline these days.

Sliced apples + almond butter: I’ve been eating this combination for years, I always crave it in the afternoon!

Chia seed pudding: This is a new favorite, I love a few scoops for a morning snack and like to sprinkle on fruit and shredded coconut. This is the recipe I use.

Energy balls: My husband’s mom made these for our spring break trip and I forgot how much I love these healthy treats! The problem is I can’t eat just one! They are packed with oatmeal, chia seeds, flax meal and peanut butter. The whole grains are full of nutrients that help with the baby’s development. Piper also loves them! I use this recipe.

Sliced cheese: I have such a weakness for cheese, I often snag Piper’s cheese sticks but I love a few slices of Fontina with our without crackers. Mama needs her dairy!

Unsalted nuts: Pistachios are my current favorite — but I always love to snack on cashews and almonds. I try to get them raw and unsalted when available.

Smoothies: I drink about 3-4 smoothies a week, usually as my afternoon snack or with my breakfast. I alternate between mixed berry with yogurt, strawberry banana, spinach + mango and my latest favorite — a combination of banana, cacao and dates which tastes just like a fudgesicle!

  1. All great options! I’m such a snacker too & I’m always looking for healthier options other then grabbing a bag of chips or something like that. You’re so right too, snacking is only elevated during pregnancy & nursing…always hungry!
