Hollywood wrapped up the 2013 award season last night with the biggest of them all: the Academy Awards! I have to admit I wasn’t overly excited about many of the dresses on the Oscars red carpet this year, but I did find it refreshing to see so many stars taking a different approach to hair and makeup. The most obvious trend seen on many stars was long, glamorous hair worn down instead of in an up-do, which is a fun change. Below I’ve broken down the most common hair and makeup trends I spotted on the red carpet this year.
Long Hair: From Jessica Chastain to Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Helen Hunt, the stars let their hair down this year at the Academy Awards!
Finger Waves: After the Golden Globes I did a tutorial (seen here) on how to achieve this no-fuss approach to special occasion hair. I love the relaxed, glamorous waves paired with the gorgeous gowns — a sleek and sophisticated ode to Old Hollywood.
Side Part: A deep side part was seen on many stars. Clean Eye Makeup: In lieu of overly dramatic, smokey eye makeup, the stars kept it simple with barely-there shadow and clean liner and lashes. Bold Lipstick: If you’re going to wear a bold lip color, the Academy Awards is the time to do it. Jessica Chastain is one actor who opted for a bright, beautiful lip, along with the aforementioned sleek waves: From berry to bright red, the stars continued this award season’s trend of letting their lips do the talking.
