I feel fortunate that Piper has always loved bath time from a very young age. She really looks forward to it and I can barely get her out of the tub these days, she pretends to fall asleep and says night-night until I turn off the lights to make her get out! We have a routine that works pretty well and I’m going to share our favorite products that we use in the bath as part of my year-long collaboration with Mustela! Mustela was one of the brands I knew about long before I was pregnant and always hoped I’d be able to use with my own children (It’s French! Smells beautiful! Simple packaging!). When Piper was an infant I swore by the No Rinse Cleansing Water which was a life saver since she spit up so much and since we’ve incorporated multiple other products into our daily routine. Piper’s always had very sensitive skin, from her days as an infant until now and I’m very careful about what products we try, when we find one that’s gentle enough and doesn’t cause her any reactions, like Mustela we stick with it!
But…. back to bath time! Piper gets a bath every other night unless she’s been outside, to a public place or is just dirty. I suspect that we’ll quickly be moving to nightly baths around June once it gets warmer and she’s outside with sunscreen on all the time. As soon as I say it’s bath time Piper races as fast as she can to her room and attempts to undress. We are working with her to learn how to take off and put on her clothes so I try to make this fun!
Before she gets in the bath I ask her if she wants to sit on her potty, usually the answer is no!
I put on our little whale faucet cover if it’s not already in place (I know, it’s so sad to cover up that beautiful gold faucet, but it protects tiny heads)! Piper loves to play with the water as it comes out so I let her do that while the tub fills up. She likes to pour water on herself with her whale rinser, too!
Then I start shampooing! We’ve been using Mustela’s Foaming Shampoo and I love how easily it lathers. It’s formulated to help with cradle cap, which for some reason at nearly 2 years old Piper still has on her scalp! I use the whale rinser to rinse it out and most of the time Piper will tip her head back and let me rinse without getting shampoo in her eyes.
Then it’s play time! She loves these mold-free bath toys and plays with them more than anything. She also really likes these bugs + the net right now or just a set of cups. She’s not too interested in the squirt animals or anything like that.
I’ve been using Mustela’s Gentle Cleansing Gel for body wash — again, it quickly lathers which I love and smells so good, it makes some nice bubbles in the tub too :) I use muslin washcloths or my very favorite Numpfer cloth (it’s so soft and I’ve used it since Piper was a newborn). I also keep the 2 In 1 Cleansing Gel in the tub for night’s when I’m feeling lazy. To lure Piper out of the bath I tell her it’s time to brush her teeth, her second favorite activity.
I’ve been drying Piper with a Turkish towel because they absorb so quickly, then wrapping her in her hooded towel.
Then it’s time for lotion + oil! I slather Piper with Mustela’s Hydra Bebe lotion every morning, I’m finishing up this bottle (it has older packaging) and mainly use Mustela’s Baby Oil in the evenings. I’ve been putting it on Piper’s feet before socks at night since her little feet are dry. I love how quickly it absorbs so I don’t have to wait long to put her clothes on.
Piper’s dress is from Alice & Ames and my shirt is from Target.
