Our Summer Morning Routine

Now three weeks into summer vacation we are finally getting into a routine. The biggest change for me is honestly getting up and READY every day since we’ve been out and about so much! I quickly learned that I need to have at least 3 outings planned per week or we’ll go stir crazy. Today I’ve partnered with Olay to share about their new Cleansing Infusions with Deep Sea Kelp Face Wash– that’s perfect for the summer and give you a glimpse into how our mornings have been spent since Piper’s out of school. It’s been a juggling act…that’s for sure.

Typically Flora wakes up at 5:30 on the dot and then rolls around a bit and falls asleep until 7am. It’s funny how consistent she is! Piper has a new alarm clock which has been working pretty well – we got the Ok To Wake one from Amazon and most days she’ll stay in bed until 6:45am which is when I’ll get up. I always try to put on the coffee and get Piper situated with her milk and morning ‘snack’ before I go get Flora. Then I nurse her and either have Austin hold her or put her in her jumper while I drink my coffee, publish my blog post and pump. Piper’s really good at entertaining herself during this time and isn’t allowed to watch morning TV unless it’s the weekend. We get to watch the news :)

After I pump usually I’ll get Piper her breakfast (she’s on a major cereal kick — we like Puffins around here) and then head to get myself ready for the day. I have to admit I really like this change in the routine, it just feels good to do my hair and makeup and pick out an outfit every day (well, usually there is at least 1 day when we don’t leave the house which is also a nice break)!

I’ve been trying to blow dry and curl my hair on Sundays and Thursdays – so all of the other days I just have to quickly run a curling wand through it and it saves a ton of time. First up is washing my face – obviously! I’ve been using Olay’s new Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp which is honestly the first cleanser I’ve used by Olay. I’ve used their face creams for years. They sent the facial cleanser a few weeks ago and I love how it cleans my skin without making it feel dried out. The non-stripping formula makes it perfect for all skin types. I always use an oil based cleanser at night and love to use a refreshing one in the morning before applying makeup that hydrates since my skin is so dry. Ideal for warmer weather and leaves your skin hydrated, plump and naturally glowing and ready to apply makeup thanks to the soy-based formula. I also love the pretty gold packaging.

Then I put on some type of serum/moisturizer combo, foundation, concealer, bronzer & mascara and my outfit for the day. I’ve been trying to pick out my clothes for the week on Sunday or Monday so I can easily snap photos to share on Instagram.

I usually have about 20 minutes total to get ready before Austin needs to get ready for work so this all happens pretty quickly and Piper’s usually “helping” with the process. I like to listen to a podcast when I can! Then I’ll come back out into the living room and hang with Piper while trying to get my morning social live. Flora loves to roll on her floor mat and play with toys in the morning and is also usually very content. I can get a surprising amount of work done in this time! Unless we have music (Tuesdays), library (Thursdays) or a playdate – Flora goes down for her nap at 9am – and will usually sleep until 11am. After I put Flora down I try to have an activity for Piper – whether it’s playing outside at the water table or doing an art project  – I’ll often try to get her set up for independent play for an hour while I work and then I’ll play with her for an hour before Flora wakes up and do an educational activity. I try to get us outside if it’s not hot or RAINING like it has been! Once Flora wakes up at 11am I nurse her and then we’ll either go play in the yard, go to the library or playground, walk down to our neighborhood beach. There’s a small window between Flora’s naps to get out of the house and I try to take it whenever I can! I like to be back home by 12:30 to do lunch and get the girls down for a nap at the same time at 1:00pm or 1:30pm. Since that is my golden time to work. I schedule all calls during that time period and try to be as organized as possible with what I need to accomplish. The hardest part about the summer routine is having much less time to work but I’m also loving less pressure and more fun with them — and I’m ok with working at night and maybe sleeping a little less for a few months!
