When I asked Piper what she wanted for her birthday all she kept saying was “a mermaid party”. She hasn’t seen The Little Mermaid (she knows about her) so we aren’t sure where the idea stemmed but she stuck with it! Because we were at the beach on her actual birthday I wasn’t going to do too much but pulled together a few DIYs to bring her mermaid dreams to life! All of this came together the day before her party. I also decided to have the party at 4:30 so it didn’t take up the entire day and though Piper went to bed on the later side I really loved how the timing worked out for us.
THE MENU:
We had a casual backyard BBQ with family and a few close friends. It was really no-fuss. We grilled burgers, sausages and hotdogs. I made my go-to pesto potato salad, my mom made her orzo salad and I made these little sand cups for the girls. All I did was layer vanilla pudding with crushed graham crackers. I made the little chocolates using a silicone mold (this one is similar). I made a funfetti boxed cake with homemade pink butter cream frosting and put this little Meri Meri mermaid cake topper on top!
Shell Plates + Napkins are by Meri Meri and have limited stock. Here are some options!
I also made a really good rosé sangria. I wish I had an exact recipe to share — but I just combined dry rose, splash of triple sec, vodka, 3 spoonfuls of sugar and sliced strawberries. Topped with seltzer. It was super refreshing and delicious. I also had bottles of rosé, beer, sparkling water and juice boxes.
I got Piper this little shell headband at Party City and she wore this Old Navy dress which she looooves.
Activities
Piper got a play set for her birthday from Austin’s parents -which such a wonderful and generous gift. She LOVES it. It was the star of the show, for sure. I also had sea animals hidden in sand for the girls to dig up. Shells we collected last summer in Maine to paint. And of course, bubbles. The girls also splashed around in a baby pool + threw water balloons.
Favors
Went super simple with the favors too – I picked up these little blue bags at Party City and got a few pieces of candy along with these cute mermaid tattoos. We also made DIY wants by tying ribbons (found at the Dollar Store)
around the top of wooden dowels from Michael’s.
We had the best day celebrating our sweet 3 year old and couldn’t have asked for better family and friends to be there with us! Sometime’s easy is best :)
