Potty Training Update! (4 Months In)

So we are now 4 months into our potty training journey and overall I have to say that things are going wonderful for Piper! I’m soooo glad we decided to do it when we did (at 25 1/2 months) because she was definitely ready and now I don’t have to worry about it with a newborn on my hands, too! Today I’ve partnered with Seventh Generation, a brand we’ve loved for a long time to give you an update and share a few of their products that have helped us a lot in the past month with potty training. As a recap, you can read about how we potty trained Piper using the 3 step method from Oh, Crap here. I can not say enough good things about this approach to potty training, over 100 women suggested I do it and I’m so glad I listened because if you follow it closely – it WORKS! It took us an exhausting week but…so worth every minute!

Piper’s at the point where she rarely has an accident now during our normal day to day routine. We have experienced issues with a few things recently though: car rides, using going to the potty as an excuse to get out of bed at night and leaky overnight diapers.

Since we started potty training, Piper has extremely wet and heavy diapers at nap and night time ( a sign she may not be ready for night training yet!!!). Because of this we knew we needed to change what we were using and started putting on  Seventh Generation Overnight Diapers before bedtime. In the past we’d never used an overnight diaper and what a difference it makes! I love using Seventh Generation’s Protection for All™ Diapers which were created in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance! They are made from sustainably sourced materials to protect forest habitats and the animals who depend on them — all while being safe and effective for our kiddos. They are hypoallergenic and free from fragrances, lotions and chlorine processing and are made with sustainably harvested wood pulp and they work wonderfully. I’m so glad we started using them since I was getting a little tired of constantly changing the bed sheets in the morning, washing all of her bedding and animal friends.

Piper calls them her ‘new diapers’ and I think it’s made the idea that she still wears diapers to sleep a little less confusing.

The other, most frustrating issue we’ve had in the past month is about 50% of the time after we put Piper down for her nap or bedtime she’ll call for us within 5 minutes OR not let us leave the room and tell us she has to go potty. Even though she has a diaper on. Of course we oblige since we never want to deny her bathroom use — but it’s so frustrating. So we’ve started always making sure she goes before bed and then because of this we’ve changed to using Seventh Generation Training Pants for nap time. It’s just so much easier to pull down her diaper rather than go through getting her totally redressed again. And she LOVES these diapers – she thinks they are so cool, her expression really in the last photo really captures her true feelings (ha). She likes to put them on herself these days.

We’ve also started using the Training Pants for longer car trips when we think Piper may fall asleep– and so far (because I’m pretty sure she thinks they are like underwear) she hasn’t actually gone to the bathroom in them while in the car. After dealing with 3 soaking wet car seats I needed some solution and this has proven to be perfect!

They have forrest loving animals on them which Piper loves and stretchy sides that you can easily tear away if your little one does use them! I honestly didn’t know this is how training pants operated and slid them off her legs the first few times with very messy results.
