Gone are the days when vests were considered a fashion faux pas, and no longer do words like camping or safari come to mind when you see this silhouette. Thanks to designers like Rachel Zoe and mass retailers like J.Crew stocking the item, this versatile piece has become seriously on trend for Fall.
Vests made an appearance on the street style blogs, glossy magazines and store shelves last Spring and the trend continues this season. Today, I’m covering vests on behalf of Balluun.com who asked me to provide insight on this trend for its business marketplace of fashion designers and retailers.
A vest should be an element of your essential wardrobe. Not only is this a classic piece, but one you can wear a handful of different ways and because I like to “shop my closet” and make the most of my wardrobe I’m especially fond of this trend! Vests are a great layering piece and add dimension to your outfit. There are several easy ways to wear a vest and these are just a few of my styling tips.
Mix & Match: Try pairing a utilitarian or cargo style vest with a feminine dress. The mix of tough and pretty looks great with a structured heel and statement jewelry.
Dress Up Casual: Pair a sleeveless blazer or sleek vest with a pair of boyfriend jeans or distressed denim. Add a casual tee shirt or light weight blouse and allow the vest to dress up an otherwise casual look. Running errands? Throw on loafers. Business meeting? Try pointy toe heels.
Pattern Mixing: Take a risk and mix patterns (think stripes and florals, polka dots and leopard) but utilize a solid vest to tie your look together. Pick complimentary colors and wear a vest that is a common hue.
