My 2019 fall capsule wardrobe (for COOL moms — yes YOU!!!) is finally here! I’ve spent HOURS crafting a capsule that you can easily mix and match alllll season long. I’m guessing you probably have many of these items in your wardrobe like I already did – and won’t have to purchase much to make it complete! As I’ve done in the past I’ve also included LOWER price alternatives so most pieces if they aren’t already affordable (under $50) and then my favorite part – I’ve included outfit ideas to inspire you and show you ALL the ways you can mix & match these pieces here!
If you’re new to the whole capsule idea here are a few tips…
- Clean out your current closet – remove all of your summer pieces, evaluate what you have already that will work this season.
- Make a checklist of what you have and what you need – and decide what pieces you want to add to your wardrobe. Think about a color palette that you want to stick with so that you can optimize each piece with the ability to mix & match.
- Donate or sell pieces that you didn’t wear last year, and then store pieces that you want to keep but aren’t part of your capsule in another closet or storage bins.
- When getting dressed follow this simple formula: wear a foundation (jeans + a tee, dress + cardigan etc.) and then add an accessory to make it YOU! Maybe it’s a feminine hair bow, or a neck scarf, a felt hat or your trademark leopard flats.

Cardigan Sweater – This shrunken cardigan style is so refreshing with all the bulky styles we’ve been seeing FOREVER! // Lower price alternative here (the blush is so pretty). I also love the pom-pom cardigan trend, I got this one and this is a great cheaper alternative.
Sweater Coat– Favorite item from last year’s capsule!! So excited to see so many great options available already this fall. This is the option pictured, I also love the open front version that I have. // Lower price alternative here from Old Navy (the rust color is great)!!
Plaid Top– I don’t wear plaid too much but I can get down with ruffle plaid! // Lower price alternative here and here (this blue is so pretty).
Puff Sleeve Top- A trend that despite reminding me of my 20’s is VERY MUCH LOVED around here! I’ve been waiting for this J.Crew top to go on sale but it just won’t, so it’s a splurge. // Lots of lower priced alternatives here, here and here.
Striped Tee– A no brainer, every wardrobe should include one!
Henley Tee– Another staple for layering during the fall and #momlife. // Lower priced alternatives all over AMAZON! Just read the reviews first!
Graphic Sweatshirt- My new obsession! This weekend one is on my birthday wishlist. // Lower priced alternative here (that I have and love)!
Leopard– There’s a lot of leopard accents in this capsule, you don’t need them all but this cozy sweatshirt is a fun way to add it to your wardrobe for $25.
Pants
Top Shop Straight Leg Jeans: I also love this pair from Everlane and my pair from Old Navy that I’ve been wearing non-stop (size down 1). People love Levi’s straight leg and this is a great, versatile wash.
Black Jeans: An alternative for when you need to make more effort than leggings :)
Madewell Kick Flare Jeans: and these J.Crew Button Fly Jeans are similar but less expensive.
Joggers: For cozy or lazy days – these are soooo soft! // Lower price alternative here.
Zella High Rise Leggings: Best leggings – there’s a reason they have over 6k reviews :)
Skirts
Circle Skirt: I got this skirt last month and love it so much – such great quality for the price, it’s really thick! Selling out quickly and there are a few sizes left.
Leopard Midi Skirt: There are some beautiful satin bias cut midi skirts out right now. I’d consider including this J.Crew one or this more affordable option if you’re not into leopard! This floral print midi skirt is also pretty!
Dresses
Polka Dot Dress: This is so similar to my black & white spotted dresses from Zara and slightly reminds me of this sold out Ganni dress I tried to get for my sister’s wedding it’s a great dupe to dress up or down all fall!
Ribbed Knit Dress: SO many of these beauties on the market right now, great for layering with cardigans and sweater coats or blazers!! Dress up or down with sneakers/loafers. // Lower priced alternative here , here and here.
Black Floral Print Dress: Love a long sleeve maxi for fall! The pattern on this one is so pretty.
