I can’t believe 4th of July is only a few days away! I’ve teamed up with my go-to grocery store, ALDI to share our cookout spread, my favorite watermelon salad recipe and a few bbq tips! When you’re cooking for a crowd I know all too well that everything quickly adds up but ALDI allows you to keep the price of entertaining low! My favorite part about shopping at ALDI is that they are able to offer affordable pricing without compromising quality and taste! Now… back to the BBQ.
Here are a few of my tips for setting up an easy & eye-pleasing spread!
1- Mix store bought favorites (we love the Park Street Deli Potato Salad) with a stand-out homemade side dish. You can snag the recipe for my simple Watermelon Salad recipe below!
2- Make a signature pitcher drink that can be served mixed with seltzer, straight up for the kids or spiked for the adults! (I just use Nature’s Nectar Not From Concentrate Lemonade with sliced lemons and berries.)
3- I like more subdued holiday decor so instead of going over the top I use my favorite blue pieces and add a simple star garland and flag to make the table feel festive.
4-Make frozen fruit skewers for the kids – we love watermelon cut out in star shapes!
5-Make your burgers ahead of time so you just have to pull them out to grill! We always use ground beef (you cannot beat the price on this)!!
This ‘salad’ is so simple yet delicious and refreshing. The watermelon juice and red onions combine to form a dressing when tossed with the feta and it’s just such a flavorful twist on a classic bbq side dish.
Simple Watermelon Salad
½ a medium watermelon, cubed
½ a red onion, diced
1 container of feta
Combine all ingredients in a serving dish and stir gently. Refrigerate until ready to eat, ideally at least 30 minutes before serving.
