Entertaining Ready

I love to entertain — it’s one of my favorite things to do. But these days, between trying to work full-time, run an event and floral business, and take care of Piper, it seems I’m always short on time. I’m barely able to seriously clean our house once a week, so the idea of getting our place “guest ready” can seem overwhelming. Since we were having frequent visitors when Piper was a baby, I tried to instill a few cleaning habits that made our home ready to entertain — or just receive guests at any time!

Spring Entertaining

I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Dyson V6 Absolute Cord-Free Vacuum, and this has made the process so much easier! We still try to vacuum two or three times a week, but can quickly run this cord-free vacuum over our wood floors, under our entry table and quickly vacuum all the dog hair off the couch right before company arrives. It also works great after guests leave to pick up pesky crumbs, not to mention save a ton of time vacuuming the stairs, which are always covered in Sully’s fur!

Spring Table

There’s nothing I love more than a spring brunch at home — crack open the windows, get out the waffle iron and pour a few mimosas while you catch up with girlfriends. Grab a bunch of colorful blooms from the grocery store for your table and you’re set!

Here are 5 ways we try to keep our house entertaining ready at any time:

1. Tidy up every night before bed. This means putting away all of Piper’s toys, loading any lingering water glasses into the dish washer, putting away blankets on the couch, etc.

2. Vacuum twice a week. With our daughter crawling, we can’t vacuum enough. We try to vacuum two or three times a week in the morning and then do a quick touch up with the Dyson V6 Absolute Cord-Free Vacuum right before guests arrive. This makes a big difference in how clean your house looks!

3. Always keep the following stocked and ready to serve: champagne and white wine, nuts and jarred olives, coffee beans and frozen croissants.

4. Utilize baskets. They help keep things contained and make it much easier to tidy. We have one for blankets and Piper’s toys in our living room and one in our entry to contain things that need to go upstairs!

5. Try to stick with a weekly or bi-weekly cleaning routine so your house is never in need of anything more than a quick touch-up!
