I’m SO EXCITED to share my 2018 Fall Capsule Wardrobe For MOMS today! Really, anyone can wear these pieces but I’ve put them together with busy moms in mind. My main goal was to create a simple system for getting dressed this fall, alleviate the pressure to shop shop shop and allow moms to feel stylish. Below you’ll see the pieces I selected for MY wardrobe and you can sign up for The Mama Notes newsletter to get the simple checklist for creating your OWN capsule that will be sent out on Friday. You’ll also see some easy outfit combos that I’ll be wearing. The idea is that you can customize this capsule to work for you! There are a few steps you’ll want to take to get started.
- Clean out your current closet – remove all of your summer pieces, evaluate what you have already that will work this season.
- Print out our fall capsule wardrobe for moms checklist (sign up for our email list and it will be sent out on Friday) and decide what pieces you want to add to your wardrobe. Think about a color palette that you want to stick with.
- Donate or sell pieces that you didn’t wear last year, and then store pieces that you want to keep but aren’t part of your capsule in another closet or storage bins.
- When getting dressed follow this simple formula: wear a foundation (jeans + a tee, dress + cardigan etc.) and then add an accessory to make it YOU! Maybe it’s a feminine hair bow, or a neck scarf, a felt hat or your trademark leopard flats.
In the coming weeks I’ll be teaming up with some other mom bloggers to share how we style these pieces and I’ll also be doing more posts with outfit ideas (like the one at the bottom here). I hoe you find this HELPFUL and FUN!
TOPS
This category is pretty self-explanatory – but be sure to pick pieces that will go with everything else in your wardrobe! I love to wear cardigans so I am having 2 in my capsule along with 2 pullovers. My button up hasn’t been purchased yet and will either be plaid or a black & white gingham I already have. A lot of people like chambray or denim which is really versatile in a capsule wardrobe!
BOTTOMS
Pick pieces here that will take you from day to night – a great pair of black jeans is a good idea too! Overalls are a wild card that you don’t have to pick and you could also use a jumpsuit here (they are hard for nursing so I didn’t use one).
DRESSES
The key here is to pick dresses that you can dress up or down and layer under your cardigans, pullovers and jackets to create lots of different outfits!
JACKETS
This is another category you’ll really want to personalize – and of course add heavier coats to in the winter. I have a thin camel coat that I love to wear to dress up outfits, and a cargo jacket is such a good versatile piece. I like the idea of a black denim jacket but you could use blue denim, too!
EXTRAS
I think of the extra category as a place to add in some fun, trendier items. I’m on the hunt for a great midi-skirt and I also wanted to include some leopard which is really on-trend for fall so I killed two birds with one stone with this skirt. I just got this wrap front blouse from Madewell and know I’ll be wearing it all season!
ACCESSORIES
Accessories are really what brings a capsule wardrobe to life
SHOES
I love and appreciate this!
