All My Pregnancy-Safe Skincare Products

This post has been a long time coming! Since I found out I was pregnant in April I started doing a lot of research on what’s in my beauty cabinet — and while the past few years I’ve been much more conscious about making clean beauty choices the truth is not everything I use is remotely considered clean. It’s taken some trial-and-error and mention money (I’ve learned that natural products that work well come with a price). I’ve been using the EWG site as a reference tool, as it rates products based on the ingredients and associated risks and I love that you can search by product name or category. The most frustrating part of my research has been discovering products that I currently use and thought were safe, natural and clean, actually have harmful chemicals in them. My friend Elizabeth shared a ton of her incredible research from when she was pregnant so I had a good starting point for making my beauty closet more safe for pregnancy!

So here’s what I’m using!

HAIR

Juice Organics Coconut Shampoo & Pomegranate Conditioner: A suggestion from my friend, these are by far the best clean shampoo and conditioners I’ve tried! They are rated all 1’s on EWG and I love how soft and silky they make my hair. I’ve tried many other natural, clean options and have not had great experiences, so I was really excited to find this affordable option! You can find them in Whole Foods, too which is a bonus in my book!

Playa Natural Every Day Shampoo: This shampoo smells heavenly, lathers nicely and leaves your hair silky soft. It’s my favorite shampoo of all time not just for pregnancy/breastfeeding. It’s paraban and sulfate free and 97% natural.

Yaruk Feed Your Ends Leave In Conditioner: I’ve been using this a few years and while its technically a leave-in-conditioner I use it as a detangler.

Rahua Conditioner: Rahua is widely known as one of the best clean hair brands — I used a sample travel size of this conditioner during my pregnancy and loved it but wasn’t quite ready to make the splurge on a full-size.  It is pretty amazing though!

BODY

Alaffia Everyday Coconut Hydrating Body Wash: Finding a body wash or soap without synthetic perfumes is really, really tough! I tried a few that didn’t lather enough and one that dried out my skin. I finally found a great body wash (also affordable) and just discovered Target recently started carrying this brand, too! I also love the cause behind Alaffia. It works to empower communities in West Africa with profits from the products.

Dr.Roebuck’s PURE Body Cream: This lotion is so thick and creamy (it does take a while to absorb which I found is the case with most natural creams) but it keeps my skin hydrated all day, only contains a few ingredients and is formulated without any parabens, sulfates or phthalates.

Motherlove Belly Salve: I’ve been using this since I found out I was pregnant, I love how easy it is to apply and the scent but I am getting a little annoyed with how long it takes to absorb. I’m thinking of ordering this Nine Naturals Belly Butter that I swore by during my last pregnancy, it’s pricey but I looooove the scent and how easily it soaks into your skin.

Thinksport Kid Safe Sunscreen: I ordered this sunscreen for Piper and it smells so good that I’ve been using it on myself too! I also picked up Alba Organics Mineral Sunscreen while I was at the beach and while it’s not as clean and contains some questionable ingredients I love how it works.

Oui Shave Oil: I’ve ditched my chemical laden shaving cream for this light, silky shaving oil. It takes a little getting used to but it leaves my legs so soft and there’s no need to apply lotion after!

French Girl Sea Polish: Use this weekly for super baby soft skin — and it smells so delicious. A great pregnancy ‘treat’.

Grown Alchemist Body Cream: This is a great alternative to the PURE body cream I love for when I’m in a rush – it absorbs quickly, keeps your skin hydrated and is a nice light formula.

FACE  CLEANSERS

My skin has really been on the fritz the past few weeks so I’ve really been trying to stick with a strict (albeit long) skincare routine. Hopefully it will help….

ACURE Facial Cleansing Gel: I love how this cleanser really cleans and purifies my skin, but doesn’t dry it out. This is great for oily skin, acne prone skin or warmer months when you’re sweating and in the heat more.

True Botanticals Hydrating Cleanser: This is a more recent favorite – I love, love, love the super gentle formula and how hydrating it is.

One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil: I’ve used this face wash since it first came on the market and still love it just as much. It’s so gentle and really is great for removing makeup. I tend to use this in the evenings and ACURE in the mornings before I put on makeup. I love this face wash for the cooler months.

Honest Beauty Refreshingly Clean Makeup Remover Wipes: If I wear makeup I use these wipes on my face before I was it — not sure why it took me YEARS to start doing this but it makes washing my face so much easier.

Leahlani Skincare Kalima Cleansing Powder: I’ve been trying to use this exfoliating cleansing powder at least twice a week. It smells so good (as all Leahlani products do) and really makes my skin soft!

FACE MASKS + PEELS

I try to use a mask twice a week — sometimes it only happens once but I really find it helps my skin if I stick with this routine!

Leahlani Skincare Mermaid Mask: I’ve heard rave reviews about this mask that has a cult following and now I understand! It’s a little sticky to apply but leaves your skin feeling so refreshed, moisturized and  glowy, I can’t get enough of it!

Juice Beauty Green Apple Pregnancy Peel: Prior to being pregnant peels were one of my favorite face products to use, I always feel like they pack the biggest punch in terms of making a noticeable difference quickly in your skin. Finding a pregnancy safe option has been hard but this gentle peel from Juice Beauty smooths and calms irritated skin and I’ll certainly be using it weekly.

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask: This has long been a favorite, probably one of the first natural products I started using that yielded great results with each use. I reserve this for special occasions, before photo shoots or when my skin is feeling really dull.

FACE SERUMS

Mun Aknari Brightening Youth Serum:I LOVE this brightening serum – I use it when my skin is looking dull and dry. It really helps to wake it up and also hydrates, though I usually apply a moisturizer on top. I also love that it’s gentle enough to apply under your eyes. One of the things I love most about this serum is how quickly it absorbs into skin and easily layers with a moisturizer. It really brighten and evens your skin tone and helps to combat those fine lines. It’s 100% natural and only contains a blend of organic oils.

Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum : This serum has a cult following and I know why. I’m on my second bottle and have been alternating with my other serums because I try to make a bottle last as long as possible. The scent alone is intoxicating—it’s strong and sticks with you for a while. It has formula of 22 organic oils designed to stimulate cell turnover, firm skin and help fight signs of aging. What I love about it? It doesn’t leave your skin greasy and soaks in rather quickly. I use it exclusively at night and feel my skin looks refreshed (almost glowing) come morning.

FACE MOISTURIZERS

Dr Roebuck’s FACE: It’s been really challenging to find a moisturizer that doesn’t have a ton of chemicals (which is why I typically just use serums and oils on my face), but this cream from Dr Roebuck’s has relatively few ingredients and rates pretty low on the EWG scale. It’s super thick, but surprisingly absorbs quickly and rubs in really well. Sometimes I mix a few drops of my serum or oil and then apply at night if my skin is feeling especially dry.

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer: This product isn’t quite as clean but it is formulated without  parabens, petroleum, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances. It’s a much lighter formula, absorbs easily and fights wrinkles which is always a bonus.

Amareta Skin Lullaby: A wonderful PM moisturizer, its thick but not overbearing and absorbs easily. Leaves your skin super hydrated but not greasy. It’s one of my favorites!

French Girl Organics  Creme Lumiere: One of the first natural moisturizers I’ve used, this is super fragrant, absorbs fairly easily, has only natural ingredients and doesn’t have a steep price tag!

DEODERANDT

Agent Nateur No 3 Deoderant: Finally, a natural deodorant that works! I love how this stick formula glides on like the other deodorants I’m used to using and keeps me smelling fresh all day.

Schmidt’s Geranium Deodorant: I like to alternate between deodorants and I also love this (more affordable) stick option. It also lasts all day and smells so good!

TOOTHPASTE

Tom’s Simply White Toothpaste: I’m pretty hooked on whitening toothpastes but am taking a break while pregnant to use something a little more safe and this has been working great. I can’t promise how white my teeth are but it leaves me feeling fresh!
