We put off taking our engagement phots for ever. I  knew I wanted to do something special with them, but also not fussy — and something that was a reflection of our life together. After a lot of scheduling and re-scheduling with our amazing photographer – Abby Jiu we finally landed on the most simple concept right around the corner from our house. I typically hate photos of myself – so I knew I wanted help with my makeup for these special pictures and was truly honored to have the most incredible artist (William) from bareMinerals come help prep me! Not only did he do an amazing job with my makeup but he gave me tips that I’ve been continuing to use since! Read on for more photos, expert tips and a peek at the final engagement session!

1. Prep the skin!! William started off by using Biolucent on my freshly cleansed skin. This is an awesome product to help smooth out the texture of skin and enhance your natural glow. He also gently massaged my skin to get the blood flowing and help relieve any puffiness. Pro tip: It is essential to ensure the skin feels smooth and plum so the foundation feels that way.

2. Complexion:
Wiliam used 3 different foundation shades to give a completely natural highlighted and contoured look which I specifically requested.  He used bareSkin ‘Porcelain’ around the eyes and the area of my face he wanted to highlight. Then William applied bareSkin ‘Natural’ in the areas he wanted to contour. Finally he used bareSkin ‘Satin’ to blend the colors together.  William used ‘Translucent’ Ready Touch Up Veil to set the foundation the used Highdive Bronzer to contour and add complexion.

Pro-tip: It may seem excessive to use multiple foundations but remember our skin has multiple tones and one foundation may not be enough. If you are new to makeup you must have an artist teach you this blending technique. It’s a flawless look without looking “cakey” or “heavy”. It’s your special day so spend the effort and money for the perfect complexion!

3.  The Eyes: I wanted to be sure my eyemake wasn’t ‘overly done’ and William did a great job with this! William started with the new 5-1 BB eye primer shadows in ‘Bare Nude’ then used “The Truth” 4.0 eye shadow quad.  Then took “apropos” and smudged on the top lash line and the bottom lash line as well, to give a soft smoked but very natural look. He used”Panther”, (a loose eyeshadow) and smudged it on top of the “Apropos” to enhance my amber brown eyes. I love false lashes so we topped them off with a light coat of “Lash Domination“mascara. Finally William used “Fate” eyeshadow on my brows for a little definition.

Pro-tip:  when using false lashes the trick to secure them to the eye lids is to allow the adhesive to dry for atleast 30 -45 seconds to allow the adhesive to become tacky.

4.  The lips: We used “Thrilled” lip liner and lined and filled the lip in with the pencil. I then used “Feel The Love” lip tick the topped it off with “Rule Breaker” mixing lip gloss.

And here is the final look and a peek of our engagement session!! I’m so happy with how flawless my skin looks in the photos (trust me, it isn’t in real life!) and how the eyemakeup looks. William and Abby really worked wonders and I can’t wait to share more!
