California Casual Nursery Tour

Today we’re so excited to share a gender neutral, California casual nursery designed by soon to be mama Ashlee Berry! Ashlee is a senior designer at a firm in Folsom, California called Design Shop Interiors. Her Instagram is super inspiring, so when we saw a sneak peek of her nursery, we knew we had to feature it!

Where do you live, what do you do for a living and when is your due date?

I live in Downtown Sacramento, I am a senior designer for a firm in Folsom, Design Shop Interiors, and my due date is September 30th, 2018!

What was the first thing you bought for the nursery?

I first bought the tassel throw hanging off the crib when I was only 8 weeks pregnant, I loved it so much and I knew it would help inspire the design for the nursery.

What’s your secret to curating a California casual style nursery that feels minimal but comfortable?

We live in a small apartment (under 1,000 sqft) so keeping things minimal is a top priority for us.  I like to keep the base furniture neutral and simple and bring layers in with textiles, accessories and different materials like wood and rattan to add warmth. I also I swear by organizing all things in baskets!

What do you think is the most important piece to “splurge” on in a nursery?

I think splurging on a rocker is important, at least for me personally. It is a place where you will be spending a large amount of time in and you want to invest in something that is quality and comfortable. It is also something that you can use for many years to come and can transition as the room transitions in style and use over time.

What are your top 5 favorite places online to shop for a space?

Etsy– So many awesome unique items and you get to support local and non local makers
Smallable– for neutral nursery decor
I am huge fan of small online boutiques like Furbish studio, and Leif
All modern for affordable finds

As an interior designer yourself, who on Instagram most inspires you right now?

Jenni Kayne, hands down. She is always inspiring me with her neutral palette and effortless chic style.

What has pregnancy been like for you?

I have been really lucky with this pregnancy. I had the typical morning sickness in the beginning but once that subsided it has been a really pleasurable experience.
