Kicking off 2016 with a cold (hopefully not the flu!) was not something I had planned! Piper had her first cold and finally beat it and now I’m doing everything in my power to make sure she doesn’t catch what I have. I loaded up on a ton of citrus and tea at the grocery store earlier in the week and have been swapping out my usual green smoothie for this cold & flu fighting combo. I’ve never been into “juicing” — smoothies are more my thing and I love that I can make them easily while carrying Piper. Enjoy!

Cold & Flu Fighting Smoothie
Makes 1 16oz smoothie

1 banana (I don’t freeze mine, but you can!)
1/2 cup fresh squeezed OJ*
1/2 cup grapefruit juice
1/2 cup frozen mango
1/4 cup frozen strawberries
3 segments of an orange
1 tbs grated ginger**

Combine in a blender and puree.

Notes:
*I don’t have time to squeeze oranges in the morning so I buy the non-pasteurized, fresh squeezed from Trader Joe’s. It’s pricey but worth it.

**I keep my ginger in the freezer — I use it frequently in recipes and it’s nice to have on hand. Frozen ginger also grates really easily. I cut off one side to grate from and don’t bother peeling the rest.
