Everyone always talks about how hard it is to find time for yourself once your a mom – I never really thought too much about it because I was so excited to be a mom in the first place. Also…. I’m not “alone” a lot since I work from home. Of course, that’s not the same as taking time for yourself but I can light a candle, close the door and work peacefully for a few hours at least every day in my office.
The end of last year was so busy — all in great ways but I had taken on so much work that I vowed to create a better work life balance in 2016 and try to carve out a little more time for myself. Maybe go to Target alone, get a manicure every few months, treat myself to a coffee shop trip. But now that Piper goes to bed at 7:30 — I’ve found I can squeeze in more ‘me time’ during the week. I already talked about my
new bedtime routine which has been life changing (seriously!) but I’ve also been enjoying a solo pampering session upstairs for an hour once a week — and let me tell you what a difference it’s made! I’ll admit sometimes it’s hard to think about relaxing unplugged instead of finishing work or doing laundry but after I make the choice I’m so glad I did.
I’ve been on the hunt for a new shampoo & conditioner that’s free of sulfates for my sad, sad hair and have been enjoying
Aveeno’s PURE RENEWAL line which is naturally derived and packed with seaweed extracts that help to rebuild moisture in your hair — which mine seriously needs. I love the scent of this line and use it during a long, hot shower while I listen to a podcast or music.
Then comes a nice soak in the tub — complete with bath salts, a glass of wine and a good book. I also use this time to put on a face mask. It doesn’t happen near enough — but the fact that this relaxing time is free and can happen in my own house makes it much easier to come by.

I’ve been looking for a new shampoo! And if it’s in the self-care space, I’m all over it. :) #hotshowersformamas
