Winter Mulling Spices

What a week! I couldn’t be more excited that today is Friday! And I have the perfect “recipe” to share with you to make over the weekend. I love mulling spices — in both apple cider and red wine, yum! Today I’m sharing how you can make little bags of mulling spices to give as favors or to include with a gift to your friends this season. I’m including them in a little something I’m working on (more on that next week!). The best part of this “recipe” is that it’s not really a recipe at all! Simply combine your spices in muslin bags and drop into a pot of juice or tea – simmering until hot and fragrant.

Winter Mulling Spices
2 Cinamon stick2
1/2 tbs clove
1/2 tbs whole nutmeg (ground – see below)
1/2 tbs Allspice
Dried orange peel*

1. Start by drying the orange peel – lay your peels on a baking sheet and cook at 100 degrees for 2 hours (checking frequently) or until they are dried out and “crisp” looking.  Meanwhile, ground the whole nutmeg in a food processor until it’s in small bits.

2. Combine spices in small muslin bags ( I use these from Amazon which are also great for tea).

3. Submerge your spice bag in 1/2 gallon of apple cider or wine until simmering and fragrant. Enjoy!
