I’m SO EXCITED to share our living room makeover today. After three years of struggling to figure out how to design this room, I finally LOVE the space we spend the majority of our time in. I couldn’t be happier- well maybe a little happier, I still need to get new pillows for the couch but it’s transformed quite dramatically over the past few months. We started out here (look how small Piper is!) and I quickly decided I didn’t like this much pink, poppy color in our main living area. We’ve since moved that giant sectional and rug to the playroom. I went for a more mature, subdued look before we had Flora that you can see here. But we quickly discovered the Target chairs were not too comfortable or practical and didn’t get much use. The rug was all wrong and I continued to struggle with what to hang on the wall above the couch. It just didn’t feel like us.
Well – when Bassett Furniture reached out and asked if I’d be interested in styling a piece from their new Essentials Collection my first instinct was NOOOO MORE MAKEOVERS but I knew I really wanted to make our living room a spot I loved! So, with Austin’s approval I gave it a go and I’m so happy I did! We picked this Liam chair which is SUPER comfortable for nursing and is upholstered with their Performance Basket Weave fabric which are designed for daily wear and tear — and live with KIDS. They are virtually un-stainable and are easy to clean. Verdict is -we love it. Need to get my hands on a sofa, next!
I also FINALLY replaced our coffee table with this beautiful wood one. I wanted to add a warm, natural element to the living room and this Salvaged Wood Timber Coffee Table was the answer to my problem. I wasn’t planning on putting baskets under it but these milk crate baskets we had fit perfectly and hold all of Flora and Piper’s toys. Literally ALL of the ones we have upstairs. I just love not having them be in view at all once the day is over. It’s a tad big for the space but it works for us because anywhere you sit you can rest your feet or drink on it.
The cabinets are Ikea and were my labor of love – see how we made our DIY Billy Bookcase Built Ins here!
The soft, neutral rug is also Bassett Furniture – and it may be my favorite rug yet. We haven’t had a simple rug in forever – I usually gravitate towards color but really wanted the living room to be serene and easy to change up seasonally with decor and pillows. The Tahoe rug is perfect for a living room!
