Flora’s 14 Month Update

12

Feb

Flora officially is starting to look more like a toddler than a baby and it kind of breaks my heart!! This age is so fun yet also SO exhausting. Since Flora started walking (!!!) she’s into any and everything and we constantly have to have an eye on her. We are also in major need of some more baby proofing in the house! Here’s an update on how things are going and what we are loving!

Read all of Flora’s updates HERE.

WEIGHT & LENGTH

Flora is still petite, weighing 20lbs, and not sure of her length at the moment. She is wearing 12-18 month clothing.

FOOD ALLERGIES + ECZEMA

Flora is still allergic to egg, peanut and tree nuts. We did a baked milk challenge at the end of January which she PASSED (huge win for us) and had no reaction to the baked milk cake that she ate in the doctor’s office. From here we will be giving her baked milk (cake, muffins etc.) 3-5 times a week until November. In November she has her next round of bloodwork to see what her iGe allergy levels are and from there our doctor will determine the next course of action (hopefully milk that’s baked for less time).

We did the same challenge with baked eggs two weeks ago and unfortunately Flora did react so she’s still considered highly allergic (anaphylactic to eggs). We are hoping that she outgrows this allergy- sooner than her teen years!!!

Her Eczema has been really under control the last few weeks – though she still has a few spots around her mouth that are pretty persistent due to her constantly drooling and contact with food in that area. It’s a never ending battle and I’m constantly trying to heal them or prevent them from popping up!

FEEDING

Flora loves to eat!!! I’ve still been anxious about introducing new foods to her but lately I’m feeling a little more confident. She had avocado last week and loved it (like her mama)! We are still nursing 3x a day – when she wakes up and then before bed. After trying so many milk alternatives she’s finally into drinking Ripple milk and I hope this will help the weaning process! I’m still tirelessly making all of her food and it feels like a part-time job most weeks! I’m most successful when I find time to meal prep for the week on Sunday- it makes everything so much less stressful throughout the week.

DEVELOPMENT

Walking!!! Huge milestone for Flora that happened at 13 months. Piper was walking at 11 months and so I’ve been waiting and waiting for Flora to start and I’m excited she can try to keep up with her sister now!! She doesn’t have too many words yet but says mama and dada and doggie and “woof woof”. She loves to wave hi and bye and has some killer dance moves. Now that she’s walking she loves to have something to carry around at all times. She’s getting a little more interested in books and has been really immersed in the sensory activities I’ve done with her (like this rice one and the sticky wall).

SLEEP

For better or worse, Flora’s pretty consistent with her sleep routine right now …. She wakes up around 5am and Austin can usually rock her back to sleep (if I attempt she’ll want to nurse & be up) and then wake up again around 6:30 or 7am. She naps between 12 and 1pm for 2-3 hours depending on the day and our schedule. Then she goes to bed at 6:30 or 7:00pm. If we could just do away with that early 5am wakeup I think Austin would be a lot happier :)

  1. I love reading these updates! My son is 9 months old and like Flora, allergic to nuts and eggs! I am also hoping he grows out of it. Thanks for sharing your family with us
