Flora’s 7 Month Update

Jul

Our sweet girl is 7 months! Lots of milestones including her first big trip to the beach, celebrating 4th Of July, sitting up (!!!) and starting solids! We are looking forward to taking Flora on her first extended family vacation to Maine next week. Flora continues to be the most relaxed, go-with-the-flow happy baby and we feel so lucky.

Flora’s 6 Month Update5 Month Update,  4 Month Update3 Month Update2 Month Update and 1 Month Update and for fun here’s Piper’s 7 Month Update !

WEIGHT & LENGTH

Flora was just over 15lbs at her 6 month visit and jumped up in percentiles for her length which was exciting. Our pediatrician is OK with her growth still, so we are all happy about that.

FEEDING

We are still on our same feeding routine and Flora nurses every time she wakes up — so roughly 7am, 11am, 3pm, (5pm bonus feeding) and then a 6oz bottle of pumped milk before bed around 6:30pm. I think I’ve successfully increased my milk supply for the time being. I am still pumping after my first feeding in the morning and then again before bed around 9:30. This has allowed me to create a small freezer stash that we are using on my trip to California. We just started solids and it’s going a bit slower than I’d like. We have to wait 3 days in between each food we introduce because of Flora’s known food allergies (dairy, egg, peanut, treenut and fish) and with our travel it’s just taken a lot longer. I’m also VERY anxious about it and it’s been pretty stressful. So far she’s tried sweet potato, carrot, peas, green beans, apple and banana. We also tried red pepper and couldn’t quite tell if she had a reaction to it around her mouth – it looked slightly red but she’s also got some flared up eczema around her face from drooling right now. Next on my list is blueberries, zucchini, pear and then we’ll try puffs and oatmeal! She seems to really like the food she’s tried and hasn’t spit anything out.

DEVELOPMENT

I love, love, love this stage of babyhood and seeing your child’s personality develop. Flora is determined and strong. She’s sitting up independently and loves to play with her toys — showing preference to those that make noise and Piper’s drinking cups! I’ve let her play with ice cubes after she’s done eating and she loves that (just have to monitor closely to be sure she doesn’t put them in her mouth). She most enjoys being free to roam about and roll all over the floor. Still no army crawling yet but she gets where she wants to by scooting and rolling. She’s pretty much in constant motion and loves to jump and bounce on her legs.

She loves her jumperoo and the activity center my parents have and happily plays in them for 20+ minutes at a time.

A few things I have on my list to do with her on our summer vacation:

Sensory bags

-Get out Piper’s scarves and stick them in a tissue box for her to pull out

Ribbon box DIY

Water play outside!

SLEEP

Flora’s still on her same sleep routine though her naps are a little less predictable since we’ve been traveling and I’ve had to wake her for different outings through the week. She typically naps at 9am and at 1pm and her naps last between 1-2 hours. She still goes to bed at 6:30/7pm (but can hang on until 8pm if we need her to) and wakes up between 6-7am. She sleeps in a lightweight sleep sack and is still using her pacifier but we are going to ditch that after our road trip to Maine!

WHAT WE ARE LOVING RIGHT NOW

Flora always has her hand in her mouth and this Munch Mitt is AMAZING!

She’s been sitting in her Stokke Steps High Chair – the same one we used with Piper and continue to love. It serves so many purposes (previously held Flora’s bouncer, and Piper used it as a chair until Flora started using it as a high chair).  It’s also so easy to clean!

Flora loves this orange teether from Comotomo, her Winkle and this sensory toy fish! She also really likes these sensory cubes that make noise
