Flora’s 8 Month Update

20

Aug

Oh goodness, we are just getting WAY to close to 12 months for my comfort level. I seriously feel like I blinked and Flora grew up. I have yet to print any photos, make a baby book, or heck even hang shelves or a rail in her closet!! I call her my angel baby and she really is. This month we went  on a road trip to Maine and one down to the mountains of Virginia, she spent too many hours to count in the car, 3 nights in a tent and 2 weeks in a rental house and was just so good. She makes traveling with kids seem easy because she’s such a go-with-the-flow kinda gal and we feel so lucky.  Those eyes light up the room and we hope she keeps her red hair!

 Flora’s 7 Month Update, Flora’s 6 Month Update5 Month Update,  4 Month Update3 Month Update2 Month Update and 1 Month Update and for fun here’s Piper’s 7 Month Update !

WEIGHT & LENGTH

Honestly, I have no clue! I’d guess she’s close to 17lbs by now but we haven’t weighed her since her 6 month doctor visit!

FEEDING

We are still on our same feeding routine and Flora nurses every time she wakes up — so roughly 6am, 11am, 3pm, (5pm bonus feeding) and then a 6oz bottle of pumped milk before bed around 6:30pm. I’m also giving her ‘breakfast’ after her morning feed around 8am (usually oatmeal mixed with a puree of sweet potato or banana) and then I also give her something to eat at our dinner time. I am still pumping after my first feeding in the morning and then again before bed around 9:30. So far she’s tried sweet potato, carrot, peas, green beans, apple, banana, mango, red pepper and oatmeal. I’m struggling with a dip in my supply (again) coming off of our travels and I think Flora is also just growing. I’m using these same methods to boost my milk supply again! Hope to be back on track and build a freezer stash again because we currently have nothing!

DEVELOPMENT

Such a fun age! Flora will sit and independently play for up to 30 minutes which is life changing! She’s great at grasping toys, rolling around and scooting to get what she wants and lets us know when she wants something that’s dropped or we take away by crying.  She LOVES to play with Piper, they make each other giggle and have so much fun together, it’s the best to watch! If Flora’s upset, Piper can usually always cheer her up. She has two teeth that have cut through and don’t seem to be causing her too much discomfort at the moment.

Flora’s babbling and “talking” all the time. She definietly says MAMA and DADA and has a preference for me being nearby at all times! Stranger danger usually wears off after a few minutes though : )

She still likes her jumperoo and the activity center my parents have but won’t stay in there quite as long anymore, she’d rather be out on her own.

SLEEP

Flora is on the same sleep routine for the most part but her naps are tending to be a little shorter (they were 2hrs each for a few months). She did really well with all of our travels and stayed on her routine, missing the occasional nap. Flora has consistently been getting up earlier – at 6am most days and still takes a morning nap at 9am and then her afternoon nap with Piper does at 1pm. Flora goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 depending on what we have going on! She’s been sleeping with her sleep sack less but still uses her pacifier to fall asleep, we are going to work on ditching that now that we are done with travel for a bit!

WHAT WE ARE LOVING RIGHT NOW

Flora is really into this teether , stacking cups, these baby blocks that she got from a friend keeps her occupied for SO LONG. I’d say it’s her favorite for sure. I put these scarves in it for her to pull out, too!

Honest Company Soothing Bottom Wash is a lifesaver now that Flora’s eating solids. I keep a bottle in the diaper bag and one on her changing table!

Beaba Babycook is back in action, although it really never went away since I use it to cook for myself all the time, too! I get asked about this product so much and whether or not I think it’s worth it and my answer is always YES! Put it on your registry! I got it for Christmas and it’s been a total lifesaver for cooking Flora’s and Piper’s food. I use it almost every day and cleanup is a breeze!

Pampers Pure Diapers – we tried these out during our vacation and loved them! They held up really well overnight, and have that handy line so you know if their wet. Plus I love that they are hypoallergenic and fragrance free.

Lillé Baby Carrier: New favorite way to carry Flora! She loves to face out and we used this all summer long on all of our trips. It’s so comfortable after several hours of wear, too!

Acutee Sound Machine: We’ve been using this for months in Flora’s room and it was GREAT for summer travel. We even brought it camping with us and were able to charge it with our portable battery. It’s super light and compact but offers great noise and several different sounds.

We also started using the Pampers Pure diapers, as the Swaddlers were giving our little guy contact dermatitis. The Pure diapers have been awesome so far and he’s in them overnight too!

Flora sounds perfect! Thank you for sharing these updates Caitlin!

All the best on food exploration! 😊
